Nick's
News!
Fall, 2004
Dear Old and New Friends,
And
here once again is Gulliver - well over a year later! My apologies
for this sleep affliction and the resultant delay in news
delivery. So here goes with the most important news in 15
years!
It
starts with a trip to the American west a number of years
ago by my sister Lucy who spent some time at a fly fishing
lodge in Montana with some friends. While there Lucy called
me, raving about the wonderful place she was staying and telling
me I must visit. I spent some time on the phone with one of
the lodge keepers and owners, Elizabeth Knowlton. It turns
out that Elizabeth was once a student at the secondary school
where my sister Lucy was the Librarian. Elizabeth and I chatted
a bit, sharing a few innkeeper and fly fishing stories.
Moving
forward five years, I received a call from a woman in Bath
, looking for a room for her aunt and uncle for Christmas.
She visited, with a slew of sisters and nieces, and mentioned
that she used to be an innkeeper herself. Later still, she
returned to offer her services as an innsitter, should I want
to get away for a bit. It was during this visit that Elizabeth
saw my sister Lucy's name posted on the wall in the office
and we suddenly realized that we had spoken those many years
before and that I was Mrs. Wood the Librarian's brother!
Several
more years passed – it would have been about May of this year
– when I suddenly decided that, after 15 years of owning,
operating, and being The Inn at Bath , it was time for a change.
I called my friend Elizabeth and told her my plans to sell
The Inn. By nightfall Elizabeth had called back to say that
somehow she was going to purchase the property. Now it is
September and Elizabeth has been running The Inn at Bath since
the beginning of July!
So
I must bid you all adieu, thank you for your loyal patronage
and start my next life and career.
